From the Streets to the Classroom: A Journey of Hope
OWSEO’s education efforts began with a simple but powerful goal: helping children who live and work on the streets return to school.
In the Pulsursh area of Kabul, we launched our first pilot program with 12 street-working children, offering daily lessons in numeracy, storytelling, and art. Since these children were primary earners for their families, we compensated them for their time in class and provided financial support to their families, ensuring education did not come at the cost of survival.
🎥 Stories That Touched Hearts: From TRT to Private School
Two of the children under our care, Sameer and his sister, had their story filmed by TRT World and broadcast on international platforms. Their resilience inspired a private donor to step forward and fund their complete education. Today, both are enrolled in a private school and continue to receive monthly aid packages that support their family’s well-being.
👩👧👦 A Mother’s Strength: Wasima’s Story
Wasima Hanım, a 53-year-old widow and survivor of Afghanistan’s civil wars, was raising eight orphaned children alone. After her story was shared through TRT World, generous donors responded with both cash and in-kind support. Every one of her children now holds a national ID (Tazkira) and is enrolled in school—marking a new chapter for a family once left behind.
📍 Expanding Our Reach: Takhar Province
Today, OWSEO continues its grassroots educational outreach by offering daily basic literacy classes to 20 street children in Takhar Province, hosted at our local office. These sessions provide not only education but also structure, dignity, and hope for children who have never known the inside of a classroom.
